Dr. S. P. Mohanty is a name synonymous with expertise and leadership in the Fertilizer industry. His achievements and contributions have solidified his reputation as a stalwart whose impact is felt far and wide.

Dr. Mohanty has done his Masters in Business Management in 1984 from Berhampur University, Odisha. He completed his Executive Development Programme from IIM Lucknow and Advanced Management Programme from IIM, Kolkata.

Dr. Mohanty carries more than 36 years rich and diverse experience in various PSUs of agri-input industry. He started his career with RCF in the year 1989 and served in different capacities up to 2015. Dr. Mohanty is recipient of the “MARKETING MAN OF THE YEAR” Award during 1995 and “BEST EMPLOYEE” Award in 2012 for his outstanding performance during his tenure at RCF.

In the year 2015, Dr. Mohanty joined HIL (India) Limited as Director (Marketing) and later elevated to the post of Chairman and Managing Director. He served the organisation during the period 2015 to 2021 and played a pivotal role in shaping the direction of HIL.

In the year 2021, Dr. Mohanty joined Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizers Corporation Limited (BVFCL) as Chairman and Managing Director and served up to Dec’23. The success story continued at BVFCL by turning around a loss-making company to a profitable company.

Dr. Mohanty currently holds the position of the Managing Director of Hindustan Urvarak & Rasayan Limited. He joined the HURL in Mar’23, initially as an additional charge and later assumed full charge of Managing Director in Dec’23. HURL, being a young organization, needed a visionary leader to establish and grow as the second largest Urea manufacturer in the country. Mr. Mohanty is nurturing and shaping HURL with the similar success mantras implemented to turnaround his previous organisations. Under his leadership, HURL is reaching to greater heights.

Dr. Mohanty’s contributions have been recognized with numerous awards and accolades at National and State levels, which are a testament to his exceptional achievements and the respect he commands in the industry. Notably, he was honoured as one of the ELITE 100 Change Makers in January 2025 for his exemplary leadership and impact on India’s development landscape. He also holds position of Executive Board Member of SCOPE.

He has been elected as the Co-Chairman of the Fertiliser Association of India (FAI) on 19 June 2025, reflecting the industry’s recognition of his vision and commitment.
